You often hear about time management, but energy management is just as vital. After all, you are made of energy. If you had all the time in the world, what would it matter if you didn’t have the energy to utilize it? This article is about how you can transform your life through personal energy management.
The business of personal energy management can be broken down into 3 crucial elements. All of them are equally important for you to consider in order to develop the best energy management plan for yourself.
I’m sure you know that the state of your health is connected to your energy levels. If you are not eating the rights foods, getting enough sleep, and making your health a priority you will not experience optimal energy levels. It’s as simple as that.
Here are three simple changes that you can make into your day-to-day living that will significantly increase your energy levels:
1. Get 8 Hours Of Sleep Each Night
Make this non-negotiable, no exceptions. No late-night web surfing, or “just one more show” scenarios that turn into 4 A.M. HBO montages. No more of that! Lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of low energy levels. If you are guilty of cutting back on sleep, just one extra hour of sleep each night can notably improve your quality of living.
Here are 7 ways on how to sleep better.
2. Stop Eating Junk Food
Give your body a permanent break from junk food. Cut it out of your daily living for good. Especially sweets, breads, pastas, and processed foods. When you ingest unhealthy food not only does your body have to expend energy to deal with all the toxins in it, but junk food will often spike your blood sugar levels and lead to a blood sugar crash shortly after.
I’m sure you know the feeling where you eat a candy bar for lunch, and two hours later you feel like an absolute zombie. You look at the clock, realize it’s only 2:30 and you wonder how you’re going to get through the rest of the day. This is a classic example of a blood sugar crash.
Instead of a candy bar, you’re better off eating a burger. Make sure that you have either protein or fat with every meal or snack in order to keep your blood sugar more stable and thus your energy levels in check.
3. Start an Exercise Routine
It’s no secret, physical activity increases your energy levels. The benefits of exercise have been studied and verified over and over, and the list just keeps getting longer. A simple exercise routine will slow your aging, reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, early death…need I go on?
The most effective, and efficient form of physical activity in my opinion is high intensity interval training (HIIT). However, any form of exercise will benefit you. Just find something that you actually like, and stick to it. Make it a habit and a part of your lifestyle.
For strategies on how to commit to an exercise routine you can read this article.
A negative environment definitely has the potential to drain your energy, and conversely a positive environment can spark your enthusiasm and give you a boost of energy. Pay attention to your surroundings, particularly that ones that you can control.
One of the most prevalent causes of depleted emotional energy are negative friends. If your friends are the kind of people that do not encourage positivity and seemed steeped in pessimism, you are probably better off without them. For more on negative friends and how to identify them, read this article.
In addition, this is not a black and white circumstance. Consider at least reducing the time that you spend with a friend that you feel is a negative influence on you if you do not feel comfortable with completely ending the friendship. Just remember that it is up to you to make the most of your emotional energy, and creating boundaries and priorities is a must.
Your Conscious Intentions
The last element in a personal energy management plan is your conscious efforts. You must take the time to identify your priorities, and craft a trajectory that you can follow in order to meet them. The best method that I have made use of is simply sitting down and writing my plans out.
Learning to prioritize your daily tasks combined with long-term goal setting is a foolproof method to take full advantage of your personal energy, and ultimately achieve success. Giving your life direction and intention is a fundamental aspect of creating your ideal life.
Every night before bed I write out a list of all the things I need to accomplish for the following day in order of priority. I keep this list in clear view throughout my day so that I am constantly reminded of what I need to get done, and I cross each task off as I go.
The simple practice of taking 5 minutes out my day to create a to-do list, has made all the difference in my productivity. It gives me a sense of clarity and control over my life, and most importantly it evokes a feeling of accomplishment as I tackle each assignment on my list. I invite you to try out this method for yourself.
So there you have it, the basics for cultivating a sound personal energy management plan that has the potential to transform your life. I hope these suggestions help you out as much as they helped me.
